Yanmar sets new standards for marine engines
The new generation Yanmar BY series made its UK debut at the Southampton Boat Show in 2006. Developed in conjunction with luxury car manufacturer BMW, this new series of engines set new standards for high performance marine engines and significantly widen the propulsion package choice for boat builders and their customers.
There are four engines in the series, two four-cylinder diesels at 150MHP (110kW) and 180MHP (132kW), plus two six-cylinder models at 220MHP (162kW) and 260MHP (191kW), rated speed 4,000 rpm.
The engines will be available for both shaftdrives and sterndrives. At two litres and three litres, they are lighter, more compact and cleaner than the models they replace. They are turbocharged and intercooled with the turbocharger on the inboard four-cylinder and the six-cylinder models are wastegated. The four engines are available with the latest Kanzaki marine gears or a choice of Bravo One, Two or Three sterndrives, developed specially for diesels.
